IHC's TEPOC (Tobacco Education Prevention Outreach Cessation) program is attending the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco (SRNT) Annual Meeting in Edinburgh, Scotland on March 20-23. Here are highlights from Day 2 shared by Chase Kornacki, TEPOC Project Coordinator.
The morning began with a session by Dr. Dana Carroll, “Advancing Health Equity Through Culturally Aligned Interventions and Cigarette Product Regulation.” Dr. Carroll shared her recent project, SmokefreeNative, a commercial tobacco cessation text program for American Indian and Alaska Native adults. Next up was “Digital Interventions for Tobacco Cessation.” From smartphone apps to AI messaging, learning about new approaches left us feeling inspired for the future of tobacco cessation efforts!
Today, Joseph (TEPOC Research Assistant) and I had the honor of presenting our Reward and Reminder program! Our work received international recognition as one of five winners of the New Investigator Award for Best Abstract. Our presentation was a great success! The engagement from attendees was fantastic, and we had a blast answering questions and discussing with fellow researchers. We look forward to opportunities that emerged from these conversations.
After our presentation, we attended a policy session. And of course, no conference day is complete without additional networking! Joseph and I met other early-career researchers at the Trainee event, sharing stories and ideas.
Finally, we ended the night with a celebratory dinner with the TEPOC Team and our wonderful supporters, including Lisa Brucks (Research and Student Development Director), Dr. Roland Moore (Co-Principal Investigator), Dr. Juliet Lee (Co-Investigator), and our family members.
Representing IHC at this prestigious gathering has been the highlight of our time in Edinburgh so far, but there are still two more days ahead! Stay tuned for more updates.
